Hillcrest

Hillcrest is a vibrant uptown community in San Diego, California. The community has a reputation as a progressive and tolerant community, and is home to nearly 32,000 California residents. The community also has an abundance of local, independently owned businesses. The area has a relatively low crime rate, though it has seen a slight uptick in recent years. In 2014, the neighborhood reported 551 property crimes, and 121 violent crimes. The data for 2016-2017 shows an increase in crime in the neighborhood, including 246 thefts, and 220 arrests so far this year.

The community is also home to the oldest Pride program in San Diego. The annual Hillcrest Pride festival includes a parade and a “Rally” event. The festival attracts about 300,000 people each year and features a wide variety of cultural performances and exhibits. Sponsors are recognized in local media and on the HBA’s website.

Hillcrest is also home to many unique bars and nightclubs. For instance, there is the Hillcrest Brewing Company, which opened in 1997. The brewery has been advertising itself as the first gay brewery in the world. The location is near University Avenue and Normal Street. In addition, there are regular happy hours at the Hillcrest Brewing Company.

The community is home to a variety of LGBT and Lesbian nightlife events. Nightmare on Normal Street hosts live bands, DJs, and outdoor bars and food trucks. Hillcrest is also home to the FilmOut San Diego LGBT Film Festival, which showcases films with lesbian and gay themes. There’s even a Halloween costume party. Also, see this.
