Living in San Diego, CA is a good choice for those who want to live in a warm climate without the winter chill. The city is home to nearly one million people, and its median age is 35. The climate is mild year-round, but San Diego does experience hot summers and dry winters. The city does not have snow or freezing temperatures, and it gets only 12 inches of rain each year. This means that San Diego residents must be smart about their water use.

The weather in San Diego is mild and sunny, averaging 72 degrees Fahrenheit. As a large metropolitan area, San Diego has some crime, but it is less prevalent than many people may think. You can even take part in a “taco crawl” to find out where the best tacos are.

San Diego CA is home to the San Diego Bay. The Bay was named for San Diego de Alcala, a fifteenth-century Franciscan. A chapel was built on Ballast Point in his honor. The city was also named after him. In 1825, the presidio became the informal capital of Upper and Lower California. However, Monterey residents didn’t like the change and preferred San Diego.

In 1829, Captain Fernando Rivera y Moncada led an overland expedition to San Diego Bay, which included seventy men. This journey was documented by Father Juan Crespi. However, the men on board the ship were in poor physical condition. The captain’s bivouac was relocated to the Old Town area, and he established a hospital and brought livestock to feed the men. This helped improve their health.

In addition to the beaches, the city has plenty of attractions to offer. You can visit the famous Legoland or experience the many water parks in the area. In 1858, Alonzo Erastus Horton, a shrewd Yankee, stepped off a steamer in New Town and looked at the site. He said, “This town should be located on the wharf.” He put down a deposit with the county clerk, and within months, he had bought one thousand acres of land in downtown San Diego. He paid twenty-six cents per acre for the land.

Pacific Beach offers a long, sandy beach perfect for surfing. The boardwalk is lined with boutiques and cafes. The zoo is also located in Pacific Beach, a beautiful 1,200-acre public park.
