San Diego

The climate of San Diego CA is mild and dry most of the year. In fact, the city has a climate that is considered Mediterranean in nature. The city’s climate is influenced by the Bay, mountains, and canyons. Near the coast, a thick marine layer keeps the air cool. Inland, bright sunshine keeps the weather comfortable. However, a fog blanket over the city can make it feel damp and dreary in June.

The Torrey Pines, the state’s most endangered tree, is also found in the city’s park system.

Native Americans have occupied the region for thousands of years. In the early 1500s, Spanish explorers focused on the San Diego River, which runs between San Diego Bay and Mission Bay. During the Mexican-American War, this area became a major base for the US military. Since then, San Diego has been a political and economic center in California. It is the 8th-largest city in the U.S.
