San Diego Chinese Historical Museum

The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is home to an incredible collection of Chinese artifacts from the Tang and Song dynasties. The museum is located at 404 3rd Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. The Song Dynasty Gallery is next door to the Tang Dynasty gallery and is home to many more artifacts. The most famous item in the Song Dynasty Gallery is the Purple Forbidden City, the largest and most elaborate imperial palace in all of Chinese history. The Song Dynasty Gallery also has artifacts from the other dynasties in Chinese history. The artifacts you see at the Song Dynasty Gallery change fairly often, so you may want to visit more than once to see everything.

Learn about Ancient Chinese Coins
Want to learn about ancient Chinese coins? Head over to the Ancient Chinese Coins display. This hall is home to thousands of ancient Chinese coins and is truly fascinating. You can walk through the display and see how ancient Chinese coins were made, study the symbols and meanings on the coins, and even learn about how the coins evolved over the course of Chinese history. Have a Tea or Two
The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum has a cafe on site where you can have tea while looking at the artifacts and studying the displays. The museum has a wide variety of teas. If you are there during the right time of year, you can also taste baiyuanxi, a rare type of green tea that is grown only in China. The cafe also sells many different Chinese snacks and candies. If you are there on a weekend or a special day, you may want to make a stop at the museum’s store. The store is home to many different Chinese souvenirs, as well as some of the same items found in other gift shops all over San Diego.
