Whaley House Museum

The Whaley House is an 1857 Greek Revival style residence and a California Historical Landmark. It is located at 2476 San Diego Ave, San Diego, CA 92110. It is now a museum and maintained by Historic Tours of America, Inc. It is open to the public and has numerous exhibits displaying the history of San Diego. The museum is free to visit.

After dark tours are also available. On these tours, you’ll learn about the Whaley family and the history of the neighborhood. You’ll also hear about the many ghost stories that have been told about the house. And if you’re a ghost-hunter, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to hear the sounds of the paranormal at night.

The Whaley House is a popular attraction in San Diego. It is reputedly haunted, but the docents are dressed in period clothing and the interior is restored in a period manner. Next to the house, you’ll also see an old cemetery. The house is a fascinating historical site and well worth visiting.

The house is the first brick structure in the state and features Greek Revival architecture. The Whaley family moved into the house in 1857 and opened a general store in it. The Whaley family faced many hardships, including the death of their 18-month-old son Thomas from scarlet fever. The house also suffered a devastating fire that damaged the property and forced the family to relocate to San Francisco.

Among the ghost stories, the Whaley House is home to the first ghost to haunt the home. This spirit, called Yankee Jim Robinson, is said to haunt the house. Eventually, people started dropping like flies, and the house began to see children dying. Eventually, the house was built next to a graveyard.

The Whaley House Museum is an interesting and fascinating place to visit, and it’s one of the oldest historical sites in the city. It is a two-story Greek Revival house that cost over $10,000 to build. The bricks used in the house were made in Thomas Whaley’s brickyard. The house was one of the first of its kind in San Diego. It became a museum in 1960 and opened to the public.

The Whaley House Museum offers a youth docent program, which gives young people valuable experience and insight into the workings of a museum. Docents learn about the history of the house, how to give a tour and answer visitors’ questions. They are also encouraged to practice their customer service skills.

The grounds of the house used to be an execution yard, and paranormal activity is said to still occur in the house. This has led to extensive media coverage.
